To be eligible to apply for a Horatio Alger National or State Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be enrolled full time as a high school junior in the United States

• Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States

• Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)

• Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities

• Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity

• Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and

• Be a United States citizen

The Galena Park ISD Local Unit of the Association of Texas Professional Educators awards student scholarships on an annual basis to students who are pursuing an education degree.

Award Criteria:

1. Applicant must be a graduating student currently attending Galena Park HS, North Shore Senior High, Accelerated Center for Education, or Early College High School.

2. A degree in the field of education is being pursued.

3. The personal statement should be 200 words or less. Why is the scholarship desired?

4. Two letters of recommendation from administrators or teachers must be submitted with the application.

5. One copy of the student’s transcript must be included.

6. Completed application, including personal statement, recommendations and a copy of the transcript must be submitted to your counselor by February 28, 2023.

The following are the requirements for the scholarship:

• Must be scheduled to graduate in Spring 2023 from Galena Park High School, North Shore Senior High School or CTE Early College High School

• Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of aptitude, desire and need

• Recipient shall carry a minimum of 12 semester hours

• Attach resume

• Attach a letter of recommendation from a teacher or school official

• Attach a copy of your transcript

• Applicants must submit a personal statement

• Recipient will be honored at the May meeting of the Galena Park Community Council PTA

The terms and conditions for these scholarships are as follow:

1. This scholarship will be in the amount of $1000.00. You will receive a one-time $1000.00 for the fall semester, provided the following requirement is met: The recipient must agree to enroll in and successfully complete twelve (12) college hours the Fall semester.

2. The recipient must forward to Lynn Nutt a copy of the registration showing college courses selected for each semester and the statement of tuition and fees.

3. Scholarship monies will be sent directly to the college or university by September 1, 2023, providing the conditions stated above have been met.

• Score college-ready on the TSIA or meet exemption criteria on ACT or SAT

• Have a 3.0 or above GPA

Scholarship alert!!!! Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The 2023 HSF Scholar Program Application is now open and closes on February 15, 2023, 5:00 PM PT. 

Eligibility:

• Must be of Hispanic heritage
• U.S. citizen, permanent legal resident, or DACA
• Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for high school students; minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for college and graduate students
• Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited, public or not-for-profit, four-year university, or graduate school, in the U.S., for the 2023-2024 academic year
• Submit the FAFSA or state-based financial aid forms (if applicable)

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 33rd class in 2021, the Foundation has provided over 6,450 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $75 million in educational support. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship. Eligibility:

1. Senior high school female students at a Houston Area school
2. Major in an engineering or engineering-related discipline at an ABET-accredited 4-year college or university.
